What is a transaction?
Transactions are interactions between customers and ASIC, primarily available through ASIC's online service, known as ASIC Connect, information brokers (for searching) and some commercial software packages.
What is the transaction reference number?
The transaction reference number is a unique identifying number given to each transaction completed in ASIC Connect.
ASIC Connect needs me to enter an ASIC key to link my business. What is the ASIC key?
The ASIC key is a unique number available to registration holders and is used to link a business to an ASIC Connect account. Once the business is linked, transactions can then be submitted in ASIC Connect. It is similar to the PIN used for your bank account and should be stored in a secure location. You should only provide the ASIC key to others who you authorise to manage your registration with ASIC.
It is issued to the registration holder once a business name is registered. Business name holders also receive the ASIC key with their renewal notice.
Can I use my corporate key to log in to ASIC Connect?
No. The corporate key is used when lodging company forms and can't be used to link business name registrations to your ASIC Connect account.
I've changed my email address. Does this change my username and how do I notify ASIC?
No, it will not change your user name. If you would like to use your new email address as your user name, you will need to create a new ASIC Connect account.
It will also not affect your user details if you log in with an AUSkey.
However, if you have used the same email address for your businesses, you will need to update the address details by completing the 'Change business address' transaction.
What if I forget my password?
If you log in with a username and password, you can select the forgotten password option on the login screen. After providing your username you will be asked to answer your secret question. We will then email you a temporary password.
If you have forgotten your AUSkey password, you will need to register for a new AUSkey.
Can someone lodge transactions on my behalf?
You can appoint an authorised lodger to complete transactions on your behalf. The authorised lodger will need to create an ASIC Connect account and link your business to it, using the ASIC key. When the authorised lodger sets up their account, they must use their own name as we must be able to verify their identity if they need to contact us while acting on your behalf.
For step-by-step instructions, see our How to link a business to your ASIC Connect user guide.
How do I remove an authorised lodger?
If you are no longer the authorised lodger for a business – or you want to remove a person who has been appointed as an authorised lodger for your business – you can do so by going to the 'Lodgements & Notifications' tab on ASIC Connect, and selecting the 'Change representative details' option from the list of transactions. Select 'Remove representative' next to the authorised lodger you would like to remove.
For step-by-step instructions see our How to remove an authorised lodger from a business user guide.
