Searching the ASIC register

Searching the ASIC register

What information can I search for on the ASIC register?

You can search for a variety of information. For more information on the searches you can perform online, please visit our What you can search page.

How do I find a company's Australian Company Number (ACN)?

Use the Organisation & Business Names search and search on the company’s name.

How do I check if a company name is available?

Use the Check Names Availability search. This search will return results of organisations with identical or similar names.

How do I search for a deregistered company?

Use the Organisation and Business Names search. If you wish to purchase information about a deregistered company, ensure that you select "Current and Historical Company extract".

I don't have a document number. How do I find the document I need?

You can search for a document using our Documents search.  If you are not sure what the document number is, you can perform an Organisations and Business Names search, this will show you a list of the available documents for a particular Organisation or Business Name.

When I search for a document, it states 'Not available'. What does this mean?

A document marked 'Not available' cannot be purchased at this time. This may be because the document has not been processed yet or a document image has not yet been created.

Can I view a document that has been withdrawn from the ASIC register?

Yes although the document no longer affects the register it remains publicly available for purchase. When purchasing a withdrawn document, you will also receive a copy of the form that withdrew the document from the register, which will explain the reason for withdrawal.

How do I get information on the address of a company?

Use the Organisation & Business Names search. This search will show you the locality of the company's registered office. You will need to purchase a current company extract to obtain the full company address.

How do I search for details of a company’s financial statements and reports?

You can search for a company’s financial reports by performing a Document search.  Not all companies are required to lodge financial accounts with us. If a company has lodged a copy of their financial accounts, they will appear on the company search and a copy of the document can be purchased online. Alternatively, you can contact the company directly.

How do I search for a company charge?

ASIC retains details of company charges satisfied before 30 January 2012. You can find information about charges satisfied by a company by conducting an Organisations and Business Names search and purchasing a current and historical company extract.

If you are seeking details of current charges or charges satisfied on or after 30 January 2012, you should search the Personal Property Security Register at www.ppsr.gov.au

I have a company extract and cannot find a member of the company. How do I find out more information?

You should ensure that you have selected a "Current and Historical" extract on our Organisation & Business Names search to ensure that you are getting past and present information. You could also conduct a Persons search through an Information Broker, which allows you to search for a particular member.

We only record the top 20 members of a company. If the person you are looking for is not a top 20 member, we will have no record of them and you will need to contact the company directly for further assistance.  We do not record member details for public companies and you will need to contact the company directly for further assistance.

The information I'm looking for is not available in a standard search. How can I find it?

If the information you need is not available through our online search service, you can contact an information broker to see if they can meet your needs.

If an information broker cannot provide this information, you may wish to submit a request for a customised search to ASIC. Each request is assessed on an individual basis and producing the information it is subject to our decision and the relevant legislation.

You can request a customised search by emailing access.request@asic.gov.au. Please provide a detailed summary of the information you require and your details. We will assess your request and contact you with the outcome.

My company is a charity. Why is your information out of date?

Information about companies and registered bodies that are also registered as charities with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC) will be available on both ASIC's registers and the ACNC register.

Our registers will be up-to-date until the time the company or registered body registers with the ACNC. After this time, see the ACNC register for current information as officeholder and address details may no longer be up to date.
