Q. I have entered my ABN and it hasn't been accepted. Why not?
A. Check that the ABN you have entered is correct, by using the ABN Lookup service.
Q. ASIC's service will not accept my proposed business name. Why not and what can I do?
A. First, you should check that the proposed business name is available. You can do this free of charge using our Check business name availability search. The proposed business name must pass names availability tests.
Q. I'm not getting a result for my proposed business name when I do a 'check name availability search'. What should I do?
A. Try the following:
- clear the 'check name availability' field and enter your proposed business name again
- go back to the previous screen then proceed through to the check name availability screen again, and/or
- go back to the home page and restart the transaction.
Q. I have paid for my business name but have not received my record of registration. How can I get it?
A. If you selected 'Pay now' and paid for your business name online using a credit card, you should receive an email containing a link to your record of registration within minutes of completing your transaction. If you have not received your record of registration, contact us with your transaction reference number and email address, and we will re-issue it to you.
If you selected 'Pay later' and paid for your business name using BPAY, you should receive an email containing a link to your record of registration within minutes of ASIC receiving your payment. BPAY payments can take up to 3 business days to be received by ASIC. If you have not received your record of registration within these time frames, contact us with your transaction reference number and email address, and we will re-issue it to you.
